An AI Video Tool Scorecard You Can Reuse
A weighted scorecard for choosing an AI short-video tool: workflow fit, publishing, script control, languages, cost and risk, with a worked example and trial.
Decide what you need first, weight it, then score each tool against the same list using its own documentation and a short trial. A tool that wins on someone else's ranking can lose on yours.
Most “best AI video generator” lists are opinions, and many are affiliate-driven. Whatever their merits, they cannot know your workflow. A scorecard turns the decision into a small, repeatable piece of work.
Step 1: write down what you need
Before opening any tool’s site, answer:
- What are you making: faceless Shorts, avatar presenter videos, clips from long videos or something else? See how to choose an AI video generator.
- Which platforms must you publish to, and do you need it automatic?
- How much control over the script and visuals do you need?
- What languages?
- What is the monthly budget?
- How much policy and brand risk can you take?
Step 2: weight the criteria
Give each criterion a weight from 1 to 5. The numbers below show the method, and your weights will differ.
| Criterion | Question | Example weight |
|---|---|---|
| Workflow fit | Does it produce the kind of video I need? | 5 |
| Publishing | Does it deliver to my platforms in the way I need? | 4 |
| Script control | Can I edit and approve what is said? | 4 |
| Languages and voices | Does it support mine, with voices I would use? | 3 |
| Quality | Would I publish the output with light review? | 5 |
| Cost | What do I really pay for my volume? | 3 |
| Policy risk | Does it help me meet disclosure and platform rules? | 3 |
| Support and clarity | Is it clear what the tool does and does not do? | 2 |
Step 3: score from evidence
Score each tool from 0 to 3 on each criterion, then multiply by the weight. Base scores on the vendor’s own documentation, a trial and the terms, not on reviews alone. Write a one-line reason for each score and a link to where you checked.
A worked example with invented tools
“Tool A” and “Tool B” are fictional, and the scores are illustrative.
| Criterion (weight) | Tool A score | Tool B score | A weighted | B weighted |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Workflow fit (5) | 3 | 2 | 15 | 10 |
| Publishing (4) | 2 | 3 | 8 | 12 |
| Script control (4) | 2 | 3 | 8 | 12 |
| Quality (5) | 2 | 2 | 10 | 10 |
| Cost (3) | 3 | 1 | 9 | 3 |
| Total | 50 | 47 |
The table covers five criteria with a maximum of 63 points. The difference is three points, which is within the noise of subjective scoring. The useful output is the pattern: A wins on fit and cost, B on publishing and control. If publishing matters more than you weighted it, the answer changes.
Questions to put to any vendor
- Can I use the output commercially, and on which plans?
- Are videos watermarked, and on which plans?
- What happens to unused credits?
- Which platforms are posted to automatically, and which need a manual step?
- Can I write or approve the exact script?
- Which languages and voices are supported?
- How do I cancel?
A vendor that answers these clearly on its own pages is easier to trust than one that does not.
A one-week trial protocol
- Choose three real topics.
- Produce each topic in every candidate tool, using trials or the cheapest tier.
- Review outputs with the pre-publish checklist.
- Publish one through your real workflow and note the manual steps.
- Update the scorecard and decide.
Where Kineclip fits
Kineclip is built for faceless, scheduled, voiced and captioned Shorts, with $19 as the starting plan price. YouTube Shorts are posted automatically; TikTok videos arrive as inbox drafts; Instagram and Facebook Reels are download-and-post. It does not render exact scripts, clip long videos or create on-camera avatars. Score it like any other tool, and see is Kineclip worth it and when not to use AI faceless video for the details.
Frequently asked questions
Does this article rank tools?
No. It gives a method. Rankings depend on your needs, and any ranking not based on a method like this one should be treated sceptically.
Should Kineclip always score best?
No. If you need on-camera avatars, long-video clipping or exact scripts rendered verbatim, other tools are a better fit, and the scorecard should show that.
How long should a trial be?
Long enough to produce several videos and publish at least one through your real workflow. A single demo video shows little.
How do I check pricing claims?
Read the vendor's current pricing page and the terms for credits, watermarks, commercial use and cancellation. Pricing changes, so record the date you checked.
